Adaptation and prevention measures for extreme heat

What actions does the Municipal Council plan to take, particularly regarding school buildings, recreation halls, and all locations requiring structural measures (such as insulation, solar protection, increased greening, ventilation, etc.), as well as for adapting housing to extreme heat, especially in regard to the most vulnerable people?

• The PAP (“plan d'aménagement particulier”)  will be adapted to limit heat accumulation. This notably includes the use of lighter-colored ground coverings, planting additional tall trees with broad crowns, and increasing the greening of public spaces.🌳🏙️🌞

• Additionally, the schoolyard of Walferdange will be made approximately 90% permeable again. Similar measures are planned for the schoolyard in Helmsange.🧱➡️🌱👧👦

  
  

• The small parking area located behind the Cactus on Rue du Dix Octobre will be renovated and also made permeable. 🚗🔧🌿

  
  

• In the longer term, the municipality’s parking lots will gradually be transformed into ecological parking areas. ♻️🌍🚙

Lastly, the project to redevelop the place in front of the commune will also take into account the increasingly frequent high summer temperatures. 🌡️🏛️🌳
